Italian ISSN Centre
The acronym ISSN stands for "International Standard Serial Number" and is used to identify periodicals, magazines, newspapers, yearbooks and monographic series. It is extremely useful for publishers, distributors and users searching for information in bibliographic catalogues.
Since November 1, 2005 the Italian ISSN Centre has been operating within the CNR Central Library.
The Italian ISSN Centre is part of the wider ISSN Network and its tasks include:
- assigning ISSN identification numbers to any serial title published in Italy in any format;
- managing the national ISSN database;
- providing the Paris-based International ISSN Centre with real-time information;
- promoting the ISSN system;
- establishing contacts with national publishers and bibliographic institutions.
